Abstract

The production of high-quality seeds is essential to strengthen agricultural expansion in tropical floodplains. This study evaluated different seed vigor levels (60%, 73%, and 93%) and two population densities (230,000 and 280,000 plants ha-¹) on the production and physiological quality of soybean seeds, cultivar Dagma 7921 IPRO, in Lagoa da Confusão–TO. The experiment was a randomized complete block design with a 3×2 factorial arrangement, where agronomic characteristics and the quality of descendant seeds were evaluated. There was no influence of the treatments on plant height, productive components, or productivity. However, seeds with higher vigor and the recommended density favored greater formation of normal seedlings and a lower occurrence of abnormal ones. The results show that, even without productive gains, the use of vigorous seeds combined with adequate population adjustment is crucial to producing soybean seeds with better physiological performance under tropical floodplain conditions.
