Abstract

The object of this research is the inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The problem of this investigation are the challenges and possibilities for the inclusion of these students. The aim is to analyze the challenges faced by teachers and the pedagogical strategies adopted, in this process, at a elementary publi in Barra do Garças–MT city. The chosen method was historical-dialectical materialism, as classroom relationships occur continuously. The research was qualitative, bibliographic, and of the interviews. The results highlight the historical aspects of the autism,  the scientific advances, and emphasize the importance of the diagnosis. School inclusion is founded in brazilian legislation, which insures the right to inclusive education at all levels of education. This study analyzes the challenges and pedagogical strategies adopted by educators for promote school inclusion. Inclusion requires acceptance of the student, individualized pedagogical planning, and compromise of the school, teachers, and family.
