Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the knowledge among professionals working in Primary Health Care regarding the diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach, carried out in the primary health care network in the interior of Mato Grosso. Forty-eight nursing professionals participated in the research. The majority of the sample reported not having participated in any training or course on the subject and having already treated patients with the disorder. There was an average of 88.8% of correct answers among the participants, with a higher number related to the non-association of autism and epilepsy, and the association of autism with childhood schizophrenia. It is concluded that despite a high overall level of correct answers, there are significant gaps in the understanding of the main signs and symptoms associated with the disorder.
