CHALLENGES FACED BY MANAGERS IN PROMOTING ACCESS TO HIGH-RISK PRENATAL CARE: A NARRATIVE REVIEW
Abstract
Primary Health Care (PHC) is considered the main entry point to the system; however, in certain situations, it proves insufficient to ensure comprehensive care. In the context of High-Risk Prenatal Care (HRPC), challenges in accessing services persist. This study aims to describe the challenges faced by managers in promoting access to HRPC. This is a narrative literature review, conducted through a search for articles in Portuguese in the Virtual Health Library. The results highlight barriers to access to HRPC, such as difficulties in referral, late initiation of follow-up, and weaknesses in the articulation between PHC and Specialized Care, in addition to the influence of socioeconomic factors. It is concluded that access to HRPC still presents weaknesses related to the organization of the network and the articulation between levels of care, which reinforces the need to strengthen integration and expand research on the subject.
