AÇÃO ANTIMICROBIANA DO EXTRATO DO MELÃO DE SÃO CAETANO (Momordica charantia) ASSOCIADO A MICROEMULSÕES

Abstract

Natural products play an important role in treatment and prevention and continue to be a source of innovation in the discovery of new drugs. Momordica charanthia L., is a plant used as food and in traditional medicine. Both the leaf and fruit extracts have secondary metabolics such as flavonoids, alkaloids and tannins that promote antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and healing action. The presence of steroids detected in its leaves has been related to its antioxidant potential. The present study aimed to evaluate the stability of microemulsions based on sunflower vegetable oil with an association of São Caetano melon leaf extract (Momordica charantia L.). The extraction of components from the leaves of the São Caetano melon was carried out by means of hydroalcoholic maceration, with subsequent incorporation into microemulsions based on sunflower oil and verification of stability by analyzing the refractive index which obtained its variation from 1.383 to 1.471 and pH 5. 70 to 8.43 of formulations 15, 21 and 26 at 1% and 5% concentrations and then the preparation of cultures of Pseudomonas aeruginosas and Staphylococcus aureus was carried out. In the second step, 26 formulations were produced with concentrations of 15%, 30% and 50%. Therefore, the formulations reported during the study proved the antimicrobial action in the microemulsion 26 with a concentration of 30% and 50% for the bacteria Sthapylococcus aureus, but the microemulsions from the second stage did not show stability. The test carried out with only the melon extract achieved the inhibition of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, proving its antibacterial action. All formulations from the first stage showed extract stability with microemulsions.
